Creamie

Creamie was one of two horses that were rescued from a home with a history of violence. In fact they were surrendered just two weeks before the house mysteriously burned to the ground. She and Scout, the Paint Horse in the bottom picture, were hungry & filthy, trapped in a dreadful pen - so small their muscles wasted away as they stood knee deep in manure. Creamie is a 20 year old throughbred, and Scout is 12 years old. This Picture of Creamie above was taken in March 2008, just after her rescue.

Later that year, Creamie (shown in the picture above, looking over Scout’s back) stretches her legs and plays with their herdmate, DD Impressive. DD has since been adopted, and so has Scout. However, Scout’s caregiver boards him at the farm so he and Creamie can stay together. After the ordeal these two have endured, they are very tightly bonded and we at Oasis are thankful that this arrangement was made. The continued relationship between these two horses have been a comfort to them both.

2011 update on Creamie –

More than three years time has passed since Creamie was surrendered to Oasis, and she has recently started to “feel her age”. She has some lameness in her front feet for which she is receiving several supplements to reduce her discomfort. The mare is also now being seen every 3 weeks by the blacksmith for a hoof trim, which is really helping her. In August Creamie had a cancerous lump removed from her “third eyelid”, the nictitating membrane in an equine eye. It appears that the cancer did not spread, and her eye has healed nicely. Other than these issues she continues to eat, relax in the shade, and hang out with her buddy Scout (now called Koda). Now Creamie (looking over Scout’s back) stretches her legs and plays with their new herdmate, DD Impressive. She has shed her winter coat and even though she needs more weight, looks and feels so much better. Scout has also filled out and has a better outlook on life. Happily Scout has been adopted!
